CFTC Commitments of Traders dashboards

Kommody turns the CFTC's weekly Commitments of Traders report into dashboards: the latest report for every major contract, speculator net positions and how extreme they are against history, seasonality, and an estimate of each trader group's profit and loss and mean entry price. A nowcast estimates positioning before the next report is published.

What the dashboards show

Start with the latest report and speculator KPIs across all contracts, then open one contract to see its history. Net positions are put in context against their own history, so a crowded long or short stands out.

  • Latest report and changes week on week
  • Speculator KPIs across all contracts
  • Historical positions and evolution
  • Seasonality of positioning
  • Estimated P&L and mean entry price per trader group
  • Nowcast ahead of Friday's release

Why positioning matters

When speculators are already heavily long or short, there are fewer new buyers or sellers left and the market is exposed to a reversal if the story changes. Knowing whether those positions are in profit or under water adds a second clue: losing positions are the ones most likely to be closed.
